Dll errors are one of those problems that tend to panic people. Not that missing dll files are not a problem, it is just that they are often easier to fix than it first appears. Dll stands for Dynamic Linked Library. These sort of files contain all sorts of instruction sets for Windows computers. When they go missing, become corrupted, improperly moved, bad things can happen. There are a few basic steps you can easily take to troubleshoot and attempt to correct the problem.
You can always try the option to “Restore to Last Known Good Configuration” by hitting F8 when booting your PC. I have always had very mixed success when trying to solve that way, so while sometimes worth trying, usually have to take a different approach. If it does however fix it, great – you are done!
More than likely is that something messed with the registry and the keys that reference the shell32.Dll error aren’t holding the correct information anymore. The configuration restore might have fixed this, but probably not. More than likely you need to go the route of a good registry cleaning application.
Now no matter what, running a registry cleaning application from time to time is just a good thing to do. The Windows Registry works like a giant database that holds all sorts of settings. Over time quirks or issues can develop that will cause errors and degrade performance. Download and install and application such as CCleaner and run it. Follow the instructions to clean up and correct the registry errors it does find. Then reboot your PC and see if that has corrected the shell32.Dll error.
By running an application to correct your registry, you don’t have to worry about going through and manually navigating the very confusing registry. If you do know what you are doing, it is indeed possible to go through and manually correct keys, but usually isn’t recommended for the inexperienced or faint of heart. Use the application approach if possible and then see if that has answered your question on how to fix shell32.Dll errors.
