If you are asking “Why is my PC slow to wake up?” than you probably have some relatively serious errors in your system that you need to deal with. Like many slowdown issues, problems with your computer loading after a sleep points to more serious problems within your computer that you need to deal with. These problems might not be crippling your performance just yet, but if you leave them untreated they will eventually accumulate and make matters worse and worse.
Answering “Why is my PC slow to wake up?”
These slowdown problems often occur both when you’ve manually put your computer to sleep, as well as when it simply goes into hibernation on its own after being unattended for a few minutes.
When your computer goes into ‘sleep’ mode it saves everything that you were doing and every program you were running before it powered down. When it ‘wakes up’ you computer has to retrieve all of this data from your hard drive, where it then gets pulled back onto your computer’s memory (its RAM).
- If your computer is having a hard time retrieving this data or transferring it to your memory in a timely manner, than you’re likely dealing with a corrupted hard drive, or corrupted RAM.
Solving PC Slow to Wake Up Problems
Hardware problems are often annoying to deal with because it’s harder to fix hardware problems than it is to fix software problems.
- Run diagnostics available from the manufacturer of your hard drive and RAM to see if any immediate problems pop up, and if there are solutions to any problems that make themselves known.
- Clear out your hard drive using CC Cleaner and run a Disk Defrag program overnight to make sure your drive isn’t simply clogged with too many useless or fragmented files. You should also uninstall any unneeded programs from your computer to free up more hard drive space.
- Worst case scenario- you’re going to need to replace your hard drive and/or your RAM. Start by replacing your RAM (get more than you were previously using to increase the general performance and speed of your machine). If this isn’t enough, than consider getting a new hard drive. This is a more involved process, as you’ll need to transfer all your files from your old one to your new one.
The Simplest Cause of PC Slow to Wake Up Problems
There is a chance your computer’s slowdown is an internal, system-based problem. These are the easiest to fix, so attempting to deal with them should be your first order of business.
The most likely system problems to cause slow wake-ups are errors in your registry. When your system wakes it has to access registry keys countless times, and when your registry is filled with empty, invalid or corrupted keys than your computer will take a lot longer to find the commands it’s looking for. Before implementing any of the above fixes, especially the drastic ones, get yourself a registry cleaner, run it, restart your computer, and see if the problem persists.
